Flexsys regards its R &D efforts as essential to its success. They give
us the ability to generate a timely response to increasingly competitive and
changing global market.
Flexsys R & D has two primary focuses, which we consider essential for
our future growth.
Process Technology
New Product Development & Application Research
PROCESS
TECHNOLOGY
A large segment
of the rubber chemical market is essentially a commodity business.
In this environment low cost is of paramount importance. Working closely
with our plants, the Process Technology Group continuously develops
new and improved production processes.
In 1999, thanks to the Process Technology Group efforts the company
received the US Presidential Award for Green Chemistry for a low waste
production process; an international recognition for benefits that
process provides.
NEW
PRODUCTS & APPLICATION RESEARCH
New
Products & Application Research demonstrates Flexsys' commitment
to the rubber industry. In today's high technology world, products
tend to become commodities very quickly. A sustainable future for
the company requires a continued effort to develop new products.
The New Products Development Group collaborates with customers to
focus on real customer needs and shorten time-to-market.
This approach is bearing fruit. In 1996, Flexsys launched Perkalink
900 a product with wide applications in tires and industrial products.
Flexsys introduced Crystex HD – a highly dispersible grade in 1998. Q-Flex QDI,
became commercial in 2001. This product enhances mixing and extrusion characteristics
so it addresses customers cost reduction programmes.
Understanding the challenges our customers face is key to our business. Application
Research provides and improves products that can contribute effectively to
the technical and commercial success of our customers. We constantly evaluate
and compare recently developed and traditional products for the best customer
results.
